It’s sad to say, but 2013 is almost over. As the year comes to a close, we wanted to share some of the most water cooler worthy wedding trends and topics of this year. So lets count down some of the funniest and most note worthy wedding trends of 2013!

# 6: Engagement Ring Selfies – Instagram and Twitter were filled with celebrity engagement ring selfies this year. It has become such a popular trend in 2013 that there are now several “how to take a engagement ring selfie” websites, to insure your engagement ring selfie is just as fab as the ring itself.

# 5: Going Viral: Youtube Engagement Videos – These wedding proposals include choreographed dancing, movie theater trailers, adorable little puppets and even graffiti street art. These now infamous Youtube wedding proposals were extremely moving, and it’s hard not to tear up at the amount of effort and creativity shown by these love-struck individuals.

# 4: Art Deco – Thanks to the remake of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic, The Great Gatsby, 1920′s-inspired weddings were a hit in 2013! While shabby chic and rustic weddings have been popular for a few years, 2013 was the year that vintage-inspired weddings became a lot more glam thanks to the art deco-inspired themes.

# 3: Long Sleeved Wedding Dresses – Yes, ever since Kate walked the aisle in 2011, wedding dresses with sleeves have gradually gained in popularity. In 2013, however, is when we saw both the runway — and Pinterest — full of gorgeous, long-sleeved wedding dresses.

# 2: The “Cat Toss” –  A Tumbler site set off the most epic pictures of weddings in 2013. Ever since the site’s photoshopped pictures of a bride throwing a cat behind her with bridesmaids hands eagerly waiting went viral, the internet hasn’t stopped laughing.

# 1: Sci-Fi Weddings – A Star Wars-themed wedding is presumably the ultimate binding experience for the chic geek couple, whose force is strong. For those whose love interest has been sparked by their appreciation for sci-fi, having a wedding dedicated to Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica or Star Trek seems very fitting.

Walking In A Winter Wedding Wonderland! Tips for planning your perfect winter wedding

Wedding bouquet laying on ice“Wedding Season” is generally confined to the spring and summer months. The winter is often overlooked during wedding plans mostly because of chilly weather. However winter has some amazing advantages too! Bring in the magic and warmth of the season with these festive winter wedding tips.

There are many reasons to get married in winter including:

  • Increased availability for venues
  • Hotel rates can be far less expensive
  • Photographs have a distinct winter feel – with crisp sunlight and beautiful reds and greens
  • Churches and hotels will often have beautiful Christmas decorations already in place

Here are a few things to consider when planning your winter wedding.

If there’s potential for snow, aim to have your ceremony, cocktail hour and reception in one venue. It may be easier for your guests to keep travel to a minimum. And be sure to provide guests with an attended coat-check area to accommodate all those extra outdoor layers! Also, don’t choose an out of the way venue. You may have longed for that cozy little wedding in a tucked-away inn, but poor road conditions could prevent your guests from getting there.

Note that some flowers traditionally used for a spring or summer wedding, will be out of season. But don’t fret! Winter flowers can be very beautiful and romantic too. Your floral designer can suggest winter-wedding appropriate blooms like ranunculus or tulips. Also various outdoor winter elements can be integrated into your floral arrangements including: Nosegays of fir, wild pine cones, cedar, aspen twigs and vibrant red berries, These accents will bring the season right into your venue!

Many wedding dresses are strapless with short arms, which is not always so practical for a cold winters day. Brides – look for matching coats, wraps or furs, which then can be combined to match your bridesmaid gowns too. Remember, you can always take a layer off should you become too warm.

After the clocks change in October, there is limited time to get your photographs taken outdoors. As a general rule of thumb, light starts to fade around 3:30 pm. So, if you want the majority of your photographs outdoors, its often best to schedule your wedding earlier in the day. However, in late February/March, you will have until about 4:30 pm before the light begins to fade.

We would love to help you plan your perfect winter wedding wonderland! If you need a day of coordinator, a photographer, or a wedding planner who will work with you every step of the way, LimeLight Expressions can help. Now you’re in the LimeLight!
